Keith Phipps

Since 1996, I've been writing and editing pieces about pop culture. I bring experience, expertise, and a flair for a clever phrase to every job.

Born in Englewood, Ohio, I attended grad school at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. It was there I had the great fortune to become involved with The Onion, a humor publication on the verge of becoming a national institution. I worked on the other side of what was then a print publication with a still-new website, serving as the assistant editor of its entertainment section, The A.V. Club, from 1997 until 2004.

In 2004, I became editor and turned my attention to making the website into a wide-ranging entertainment publication staffed and read by pop-culture obsessives. During my tenure I dramatically expanded its output and scope while writing hundreds of reviews and features and playing a key role in two books: The Tenacity of the Cockroach (an interview collection) and Inventory (a collection of pop-culture lists).

After parting ways with The A.V. Club in 2012, I created and served as editorial director of The Dissolve, a film website associated with Pitchfork. From 2013 until 2015 we became a beloved, sharply opinionated source for fans of film. After the closure of The Dissolve, I assumed the role of editorial director of film and television at Uproxx, where I had the pleasure of editing popular film and television writers such as Alan Sepinwall and Mike Ryan.

Now? I'm available for writing and editing projects. You can reach me at kphipps3000@gmail.com.
